The Power of Unity:
By LA Wright
How Many Votes Would Go to Our Candidate of Choice?
Imagine the impact if every Black voter in the United States united behind a single candidate. According to recent data, there are approximately 32 million Black Americans eligible to vote1. If all of them cast their ballots for one candidate, that candidate would receive a significant boost in the popular vote.
To put this into perspective, in the 2020 presidential election, about 159 million people voted2. If 32 million Black voters supported one candidate, that would represent roughly 20% of the total votes cast. This level of support could be a game-changer in a closely contested election, potentially swaying the outcome in favor of the chosen candidate.
The unity of Black voters has historically played a crucial role in elections, and this hypothetical scenario underscores the immense power of a unified voting bloc. By coming together, Black voters can ensure their voices are heard and their interests are represented at the highest levels of government.
